Spirulina is widely recognized for having immune and energy boosting effects.

Many studies have documented the positive effect Spirulina has on a person’s energy level and mood. For many individuals, particularly conscious about avoiding artificial supplements, taking a natural alternative like Spirulina makes them feel energized and motivated for the day. In a clinical study, Spirulina increased the plasma antioxidant capacity of hamsters by 42% [4].

Spirulina’s energy powers are fueled by the essential fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).  This Omega-6 fatty acid, found in Spirulina as well as some plant-based oils, is easily absorbed into the body and helps in releasing energy.  It is also known to improve brain function, support bone health, stimulate skin and hair growth, and regulate metabolism.  A randomized double blind study showed that after 8 weeks, Spirulina positively affected men with fatigue. [5]  Its energy-boosting effects have also helped people suffering from fibromyalgia.  Dependence on coffee or other caffeinated drinks can be replaced by Spirulina consumption.
